Mijn kruissteek roos in de At Home!

Daarnet kreeg ik het maartnummer van At Home in de bus. De ideeëngids achterin staat helemaal in het teken van de kruissteek. Zo leuk dus dat Marieke de Geus mijn kruissteek sjabloon gebruikte om 'mijn' roos op de muur te schilderen. Een roos in grijs- en groentinten, heel mooi!
{I just received the March issue of the Dutch interior magazine At Home. In this issue a lot of DIY ideas using cross stitches. It's so nice to see At Home used my cross stitch mural template to paint 'my' rose on the wall. A rose in greys and greens, very pretty!}

Hieronder de uitleg hoe je het sjabloon kan gebruiken:
Dit kruissteeksjabloon is een hulpmiddel om kruissteekpatronen groot op je muur over te brengen, waarna je ze kunt inschilderen. Resultaat: een borduurwerk-muurschildering.
Het is niet de bedoeling om het sjabloon te gebruiken om meteen met verf te tamponneren, maar om te bepalen en aan te geven waar de kruisjes op de muur geschilderd kunnen worden.

Alle bestaande, maar ook zelfontworpen borduurpatronen kunnen op deze manier op de muur geschilderd worden. Elk kruisje is 4 x 4 cm (of 2 x 2 cm bij het kleine sjabloon), zo kun je dus makkelijk de uiteindelijke maat van je muurschildering uitrekenen.

Nodig:
Potlood, gum, liniaal, waterpas, verwijderbaar tape, kwast en/of penseel, acryl- of muurverf (koop de juiste kleuren verf of meng met magenta, cyaan, geel, wit en eventueel zwart de kleuren zelf).

Werkwijze:
1. Bepaal waar het midden van de schildering op de muur moet komen.
2. Teken met potlood, een liniaal en een waterpas een horizontale en een verticale lijn beide met het eerstgenoemde punt als middelpunt (blauwe lijnen op de werktekeningen)
3. Plaats het sjabloon met de lijnen die erop staan, langs de lijnen op de muur (zie groene lijnen op de werktekening) en plak het met verwijderbaar tape vast.
4. Teken de kruisjes van het sjabloon met potlood dun over of geef het kruisje met vier puntjes aan. En zet er tekentjes of letters in om de juiste kleur per kruisje aan te geven.
5. Verplaats het sjabloon steeds volgens de werktekening en teken alleen de kruisjes die op de werktekening staan.
6. Vul nu met de de juiste kleuren verf alle getekende kruisjes in.
7. Als de verf droog is, gum dan voorzichtig de nog zichtbare potloodlijnen weg.

 Here an explanation about the use of the template:

This cross stitch template will help you to transfer cross stitch patterns onto your wall in a large size, then the crosses can be painted. Result: a beautiful ‘embroidered’ mural.
This template is not meant to be used for painting directly on the wall. It’s meant to help you to decide where you would like the mural to be and then to mark the area. 

All existing, but also self-designed embroidery patterns can be painted on the wall in the same way. Each cross is 4 x 4 cm (or 2 x 2 cm on the small template), so it’s easy to work out the size of your mural.

You will need:
Pencil, eraser, ruler, level instrument, low tack tape, paint brush, acrylic or wall paint (buy separate colours or use magenta, cyan, yellow, white and black and mix the colours until you get the right shades).

Method:
1. Decide where the centre of the painting should be on the wall.
2. Using a pencil, a ruler and a level instrument draw a horizontal and a vertical line, both with the above-mentioned point as the centre (blue lines on the instruction drawing).
3. Place the template with the lines on it, along the lines on the wall (see green lines on the instruction drawing) and attach it with low tack tape.
4. Trace the crosses of the template with thin pencil lines or just mark the four points of the crosses. Then mark each cross with the number of the paint colour to be used.
5. Move the template according to the instruction drawing and trace only the crosses shown on the instruction drawing.
6. Then fill up all the crosses on the wall with the right paint colours.
7. When the paint is dry, carefully erase any visible pencil lines.

Am I dreaming???

Gister vond ik een paar foto's van mijn huis op de Amerikaanse APPARTMENT THERAPY site! Dat is echt een hele beroemde website. Ik kan het nog steeds niet geloven.

Just found some photos of my house on the APPARTMENT THERAPY site! Wow! I'm still pinching myself.

 I haven't cross stitched in years, even with its resurgence in popularity, and I've never painted a mural (thankfully for those who live with me). That said, I've fallen for this gorgeous cross stitch mural in the bedroom of designer Eline Pellinkhof. And I'm not the only one — after her house was featured on Bloesem Living, Pellinkhof received so many positive comments about the mural that she's now developing a kit.

The mural draws on the popularity of both cross stitch and wall decals, while also looking pretty and timeless. I especially like that it's in a bedroom — it seems cozy and thoughtful. While the rose pattern was inspired by one of Pellinkhof's pillows, I'm sure that artsy muralists out there can find other inspiration to create a unique mural in their own homes.

Cross stitch mural!

Ik ben overdonderd door de overweldigende belangstelling voor mijn kruissteek muurschildering. Zoveel leuke reacties op mijn huis op BloesemBlog! En de foto's ervan zwerven nu overal rond in blogland. Het lijkt mij dus een goed idee om met Marianne Design samen een 'kruissteek-muurschilder-pakket' samen te stellen. Hier ga ik aan werken, hopelijk lukt het. Ik kom er snel op terug op dit blog.

Cross Stitcher magazine

In het februari nummer van het Engelse Cross Stitcher magazine staat een vrij lang interview met mij met veel foto's. En een werkbeschrijving van de op gaatjespapier geborduurde roos. Ik moet zeggen, ik ga toch wel bijna naast m'n schoenen lopen van de lovende, ietwat 'over the top' introtekst... (bloos)

Kruisjes {crosses}

Deze baboushka (ongeveer 63 x 43 cm) heb ik geschilderd met behulp van het kleine kruissteek sjabloon. Er zitten namelijk twee maten sjablonen in één verpakking. Dit om te laten zien dat je ook hele andere borduursels op je muur (of op papier of doek) kan schilderen dan een roos of een uil. Alle borduur- patronen, mits niet te groot, kunnen nagemaakt worden op de muur.

News and beautiful rose

Eerst wil ik jullie deze mooie geschilderde kruissteek roos laten zien, gemaakt door Lucy van het Craftberry Bush blog. En haar hele blog is zeer de moeite waard. Kijk eens naar dit hart van muziekpapier!

En nu even wat spannends. Jullie weten dat het Eline's Huis boek in het Engels komt. Dit zal juni 2012 zijn. De titel wordt heel anders, heb ik gister gehoord, het was even wennen maar ik vind hem wel leuk eigenlijk. Het wordt: Stitch & Sew Home.

Nou hoorde ik gister van een van de grootste uitgeverijen op creatief gebied van Duitsland, dat zij ook heel graag BEIDE boeken in het Duits willen gaan vertalen!! Zo leuk. Vooral omdat ik dit contact zelf geregeld heb; via via kwam ik in contact met Ursula die voor mij een Duitse email stuurde naar deze Duitse uitgever. En ja hoor, nog dezelfde dag hoorde ik dat ze graag de twee boeken wilde bekijken. En nu gister mailde me ze het goede nieuw. Nu moeten de contracten eerst nog rond natuurlijk, maar ik heb goede hoop. Het eerste boek moet in september 2012 in het Duits verschijnen.

{And now something exciting. You know that the first book will be translated in English coming June. The titel will be: Stitch & Sew Home. It's quite different than the Dutch titel, but I think I like it. 
Yesterday I got an email from one of the biggest crafts publishers in Germany. They really like to publish BOTH of my books in German!! This is such good news, and the nice thing is that I organized it myself; I got in touch with Ursula, she's sent a German email to this publisher. And the same day the publisher emailed me back to ask for examples of the books. Yesterday I heard the great news. First some contracts have to be signed, but I think everything will be fine. The first book will be in German in September 2012.}

Verder, ja het gaat maar door, komt er een interview mét een zelfmaker van mij in het maartnummer van de 101 Woonideeën. Ik heb het artikel al gezien en ben er heel blij mee.

{The second thing; I will be in the next issue (March) of Dutch interior magazine 101 Woonideeën. It will be an interview and a craftproject. I've already seen this article and it looks so nice.}

Dan nog iets, jullie kennen het geweldige hippe Engelse handwerkblad Mollie Makes?! Ook hierin komt een interview met mij. In de serie 'Tea and a Chat'. Ik heb foto's gemaild en vragen beantwoord. Ben heel benieuwd hoe het eruit gaat zien. Dit interview komt in de Mollie Makes nummer 11, volgens mij is dit ook het maartnummer.

De 'kies-een-nummer-in-het-wilde-weg-machine' van internet koos nummer 12, en dat is Joppe. Gefeliciteerd Joppe, ik stuur je een sjabloon toe. De tweede winnaar mocht ik zelf kiezen. Dat was niet makkelijk want ik kreeg zoveel leuke reacties en ik las ook erg veel leuke verfrissende ideeën wat jullie allemaal met het sjabloon wilden gaan doen. Erg goed vond ik het inpakpapier beschilderen van Twink, een kruissteek-schildering op een tafelblad van Mums en de kruissteekjes op lampenkappen van Freubelmuts. Maar mijn keuze gaat toch naar Mariska, met haar idee om een grote kruissteek-schildering met textielverf op een dekbedhoes te maken. Ik zie het al voor me; slapen (als een roos) onder een kruissteek roos. Dus Mariska krijgt ook binnenkort een sjabloon toegestuurd. 
Gefeliciteerd meiden! En iedereen bedankt voor het meedoen!
O ja, en voor ik het vergeet... wil je het sjabloon toch zelf aanschaffen, dat kan bij byPetra!

That wasn't easy because I got so much nice reactions and I saw so many great ideas on what to paint using the template. I particulary liked the idea of painting cross stitches on wrapping paper (by Twink), an 'embroidered' tabletop (by Mums) and the painted lampshades (by Freubelmuts). But I choose Mariska. Her idea was to paint a large cross stitch pattern on a duvet cover. So Mariska is going to get her template as well. Gongratulations to both girls and thanks everbody for taking part!

Sorry, sorry...

Veel te lang niet geblogd. De agenda voor 2014 is klaar en wordt nu gedrukt. Dank voor alle reacties en op- en aanmerkingen op de agenda van 2013, ik heb mijn best gedaan om overal rekening mee te houden in de volgende editie.
Binnenkort komt er een lange post met allemaal Eline-inspiratie, maar voor nu even mijn nieuwe kruissteek hoekje in m'n huis (herkennen jullie de stoel en het kleed van de stand die ik samen met Arda stylde voor de uitgever?) Het kleed is aan de onderkant veel mooier, dus dat ligt nu ondersteboven. Lekker kitsch zo bij elkaar en daarom vind ik het weer geweldig.

{Too long you didn't hear from me, sorry! Worked hard to design the new diary for 2014. It's finished now and gone to the printers. 
Soon I will post a lot of Eline-inspiration, but for now I'd like to show a new corner in my home; a cross stitch corner. The thriftshop carpet is much nicer on the other side so it's upside down now.}

Ik wilde nog even melden dat m'n kruissteek muurschilderingen echt de hele wereld overgaan. Uit Amerika kreeg ik een verzoek voor foto's van het Freshome blog, en de Casa Vogue Brasil heeft dit artikel overgenomen. Toch leuk!!! Embroidered denim

Op de Flavourites beurs kwam ik een dame tegen die het borduurpatroon van de roos en vlinder, wat ik gemaakt had voor het kruissteek kussen uit boek één, op haar jack geborduurd had. Dit vond ik zo'n leuk idee dat ik het even wilde laten zien.

{On the Flavourites fair I met a lady who embroidered my rose and butterfly cross stitch pattern on her jacket. I thought this was such a nice idea.}

Rose buttons

Deze bloemen met geborduurde roos knopen, waarvan het patroon in het Eline's Huis boek staat, zijn gemaakt door ABily Secretly. Haar kaartjes met kruissteek hartjes zijn ook erg leuk.
